Very few occupations offer the scope for a varied workload as that of an IT specialist. In modern times, the role of IT has dramatically increased in importance for virtually every organization, regardless of its size or sector of operations. Today, the typical salary for a senior IT professional can reach well over $100,000 depending on the specific tasks and responsibilities that are expected to be undertaken. In part, the role of the IT specialist has increased in importance due to the huge reliance on tech and IT infrastructure in most businesses. This technology needs to perform consistently and needs swift action when problems occur so that productivity can remain high, and interruptions can be minimized. Whilst there is a wide range of roles and specialities for an IT professional, there are also more common tasks and responsibilities that may be required. In this article, two common roles for an IT specialist will be explored in detail.

ToggleDeploying and Maintaining Software Systems
One of the key roles of many IT professionals is to deploy and maintain software systems that are used across an organization. Specialists in this field (and all software developers) should have highly developed coding skills and possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that occur with these software systems. In recent years, software developments have led to the recognition that singular software packages can be unwieldy and difficult to maintain or upgrade. This is especially true for complex programs that require multiple layers of programming and parts. Today, it is far more common to see the use of microservices in software design. Put simply, this is the process of building software as a collection of individual components. The key benefit of this is that specific parts of the software can be removed from the stack when maintenance or upgrades are taking place. This allows a minimum of downtime to take place. IT specialists in this field should understand and be able to deploy and maintain microservices as part of their regular responsibilities.
Educating the Wider Workforce On Cybersecurity
In 2023, cybercrime is one of the biggest risks to any business, regardless of their sector of work or company size. It is estimated that a successful cyber attack costs businesses $200,000 on average. However, it should also be recognized that a business can lose goodwill and brand image after such an attack takes place, especially if sensitive customer information is lost or the company is found to have poor levels of cyber security. IT professionals may choose to specialise in the field of cyber security, but even if they do not focus on this specific area, some of their regular tasks will likely involve elements in this field. Many IT professionals are expected to educate the wider workforce on matters relating to cyber security. This can involve stressing the importance of using complex passwords, spotting malicious emails, and staying safe online.
To Sum Up
Deploying and maintaining software systems is a common role for many IT specialists. In addition, a wide range of IT professionals are expected to educate the wider workforce on matters relating to cyber security, as cybercrime is one of the biggest risks facing modern business today.
