She’s now known as a worldwide famous actress and singer, she’s both embraced and broken out of the “Disney” image. Her hit show Wizards of Waverly Place and the numerous movies she’s starred in have gained her fans of all ages. She is, of course, Selena Marie Gomez. Selena Gomez pictures are posted on the front page of many gossip sites, and she’s definitely made a name for herself both in the acting and music industry. How about we look back and see where it all went right for Selena?
Born in Texas on July 22, 1992 when her mother was only 16, Selena was bullied at a high rate during elementary and middle school. Selena jumped into the acting career as Gianna in Barney & Friends, which lasted from 2002 to 2004. Following this, Selena guest starred on Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Hannah Montana, before getting the lead as Alex Russo on her own Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place in 2007. Wizards of Waverly Place became a hit show and earned Selena countless awards and nominations.
In 2008, Selena announced that she would be forming a band, entitled The Scene. However, she later stated that Hollywood Records, her label, didn’t want Selena to be in a band due to her already having a fanbase. To satisfy herself and the label, Selena decided to change the band’s name to Selena Gomez & the Scene. Their debut album, Kiss & Tell, released on September 29, 2009, composed of mostly pop and rock elements. The album was certified Gold after exceeding 500,000 copies.
In 2010, Selena starred in the film Ramona and Beezus, as she began work on her band’s second album. Released on September 17, 2010, A Year Without Rain became the band’s first album to reach the Top 5 in the Billboard 200, and once again was certified Gold.
Media speculation went on for several months about a possible relationship between Selena and Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber. This was confirmed when the two attended the 2011 Vanity Fair Oscar Party together. The two became a popular topic for the media, who posted numerous Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez pictures, and were dubbed as “Jelena”. After approximately two years together, the couple broke up sometime around the beginning of 2013.
In the June of 2011, Selena Gomez & the Scene’s third and final album When the Sun Goes Down was released. This album was the most successful on the Billboard 200, and the single Love You Like a Love Song went on to received a 4x Platinum certification. Selena then announced that her music career would be put on hold to focus on acting, however in October 2012 she turned back on these previous statements to confirm an upcoming solo album. Stars Dance was released on April 8, 2013.
So, here we are. Selena is now performing on her solo tour and has reported that she will be continuing her acting and singing career. Who knows what will happen next for this young starlet?
