Delhi Street Food Hygiene Tips
Street food can be delicious, but hygiene should always be part of your decision.
Choose Busy Vendors
A high customer turnover can mean ingredients are being used frequently, although it isn’t a guarantee of hygiene.
Watch Food Preparation
Look for vendors who handle food carefully and maintain reasonably clean preparation areas.
Prefer Freshly Cooked Food
Freshly prepared and properly cooked food is generally preferable to food that has been sitting exposed for long periods.
Be Careful With Water
For chutneys, drinks and other foods involving water, use your judgment about hygiene and choose reputable vendors.
Carry Hand Sanitizer
It’s useful during a long food walk.
How Much Does a Delhi Food Tour Cost?
The budget depends on what you eat and where you eat.
Street snacks can be relatively inexpensive, while famous restaurants and specialty establishments can cost considerably more.
A basic food-tour budget should account for:
- Snacks
- Main meals
- Drinks
- Desserts
- Local transportation
Instead of following a fixed amount, decide your budget before starting the food tour.

Instead, explore different neighborhoods, try smaller portions, pay attention to hygiene and give yourself time to enjoy each dish.
For a first Delhi food trip, chole bhature, golgappe, chaat, parathas, kebabs and jalebi are an excellent starting point.
