ToggleResearch Your Options
There are several ways to transport your car across the country, such as driving it yourself, hiring a professional car shipping company, or using a freight train. Each option has pros and cons, so it’s essential to research them to find the one that suits your needs and budget.
If you decide to hire a professional car shipping company which also offers state-to-state car towing, read reviews and check their credentials to ensure they are reliable and trustworthy. It’s also crucial to ask for a detailed quote that includes all the fees so you know what to expect.
Plan Ahead
Planning is crucial when it comes to transporting your car cross-country. You should start preparing at least a month before the move to give yourself enough time to research, book a service, and prepare your car for transport. Waiting until the last minute to book the needed services won’t leave wiggle room to negotiate prices with service providers.
If you’re driving your car, plan your route, book accommodations along the way, and schedule regular rest stops. If you’re using a car shipping company, book their service at least two weeks before the move and communicate your preferred pickup and delivery dates.
Prepare Your Car for Transport
Preparing your car for transport is crucial to ensure it arrives at its destination in good condition. Here are some tips to follow:
- Wash your car and take photos of it from different angles to document its condition before transport.
- Remove all personal items and valuables from the car, including the trunk and glove compartment.
- Check your car for leaks and get them fixed if necessary.
- Check your car’s battery, tires, and brakes, and make sure they are in good condition.
- Disable the car alarm and provide the keys to the shipping company.
Get the Right Insurance
Transporting your car across the country involves some risks, so getting the right insurance coverage is essential. Check with your car insurance company to see if they provide coverage for car transport or if you need to purchase additional insurance from the car shipping company.
It is important to carefully read and comprehend the insurance policy to determine what is covered and what is not. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask the insurance provider or the car shipping company.
Keep a copy of the insurance policy and contact information for the insurance provider and the car shipping company handy. In case of any issues or emergencies during transport, you can quickly reach out to the relevant parties and get the assistance you need.
Communicate with the Car Shipping Company
Communication is vital when it comes to transporting your car cross-country. Make sure to communicate your expectations, concerns, and preferences with the car shipping company so that they can provide you with the best service possible.
Ask for updates on the transport process and the estimated delivery date, and make sure to provide a reliable contact number where they can reach you. If any issues arise during the transport, make sure to address them promptly and professionally.
If you have any concerns or issues during the transport, don’t hesitate to address them with the car shipping company. For example, if you notice damage to your vehicle upon delivery, take photos and report it to the company immediately. A reputable car shipping company will address your concerns promptly and professionally.
