Uttarakhand Glacier Disaster: 18 Bodies Recovered, 202 Missing As Rescue Efforts Intensify

Have you all heard about the disaster that happened in Uttarakhand? You must have heard that 18 people are dead and 200 are missing. It is really an unfortunate thing. Nobody could have avoided this as natural calamities are totally unavoidable. We even met or heard about such disasters many times before. The painful part of such a disaster is losing loved ones and a huge loss of physical properties. Today we are going to discuss the very recent glacier disaster that took place in Uttarakhand. This news is active on every news channel. Many people have lost their lives in this disaster made by nature. But the positive side is that many people are still predicted as being alive and got stuck somewhere in the mud or terrain.

Some important information about the Uttarakhand glacier disaster:

1. The incident happened in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand this Sunday. Five bridges and hydroelectric stations near the Alakananda river faced huge damages. Roads are highly affected.

2. Nothing can be told about a total of 170 people till now. 30 people are doubted to have struck under 2.5 km terrain. Efforts of the rescue team are on at a rapid speed.  For them, the muddy surface and debris are creating obstruction more than the low temperature and terrain.

3. The mud has been removed by the State Disaster Response Force of Uttarakhand from the Tapovan Dam of Chamoli. But the level of the river will take time to lower down the water level after which this force will be able to rescue the trapped people.

4.Indo-Tibetan Border Police Team proved to be successful in rescuing 12 people from the under-construction tunnel and helping them to get back to their families.

5. Rs 4 lakhs will be given to those families who have lost their family members due to this glacier burst. Such a declaration was made on Sunday by Trivendra Singh Rawa, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. People seriously injured will be compensated with Rs.50000. Such compensation along with Rs.2 lakhs will be given from the Minister’s National Relief Fund.

6. The aforesaid damaged bridges were actually a connection between the narrow roads of the hills and 13 villages. But nothing to worry about now because airdrop arrangements have been made to enable the villagers to get hold of needed food items.

7. We often get to see or hear about several news related to the frequent illegal cutting of trees. The trees are not planted at the same speed as deforestation is done in several regions. Such activities are really scary and harmful to the environment. This can surely be a reason for such a disaster in Uttarakhand.

8. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has his constant eye on the rescue task of Uttarakhand. He showed continuous support to the affected people of Uttarakhand and prey for the quick relief of them. The top leader of the world stood beside these affected people of Uttarakhand. The UK also felt bad for such a glacier disaster and stood beside them in this critical situation.

Uttarakhand glacier disaster will surely remind you all about floods in the monsoon season that too took place in Uttarakhand in 2013 that took the lives of 6000 people. Let us pray that the army, navy, and diving team stand successful in rescuing all the trapped people.
