Simmons Out Of T20 World Cup Due To Back Injury

In a successive events of players withdrawing their names from the World Cup series, West Indies suffers an another blow as Lendi Simmons will not be able to play in the upcoming T20 series due to his back injury. West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) recently in a press conference announced that Simmons was pulled out of the team in terms of medical ground. “Lendi Simmons will be staying back in Trinidad during the course to work on his back injury until he becomes physically fit” said one of the spokesperson of WICB.

The board has not yet declared the name of any player who will act as replacement to Simmons in 2016 World Cup T20 tournament. Simmons is an amazing player and has a marvellous T20 career as a batsman. Scoring over 4584 runs in just 165 matches, not playing for the country in World Cup series, surely is a blow to the West Indies cricket team. The team is soon to arrive in India to play warm up matches against India before ICC T20 World Cup and the board is expecting that they will find a worthy replacement in time.

Simmons becomes the fourth player in the team who was pulled out of the 2016 World Cup series after Kieron Pollard, Sunil Marine and Darren Bravo. West Indies indeed is going through a tough phase. Sunil Marine who was not allowed to play for the team due to his poor progress in rehabilitation work after he got banned due to suspected charges on bowling action during an international event. Whereas Bravo voluntary didn’t want to play in the upcoming series as his own long term planning.

On the other hand, Kieron Pollard, the all rounder from West Indies is yet to recover from his knee injury. Last November Pollard got injured while playing domestic T20 series in South Africa and has been working on his knee injury since then. At this moment, West Indies Cricket Board along with the captain Clive Lloyd is not in the position to declare an name until they get a worthy replacement of Simmons.

However, all the eyes are on two players one is Dwayne Smith and other is Jonathan Carter. Any one of them is soon going to be playing for their country in World Cup Series. Keeping in mind the great track record of Dwayne Smith who was declared Man of the Match in Pakistan Super League is the first preference of the board members. Again Jonathan Carter, who made his first appearance as on January 2015 World Cup is also said to have a good batting skills.

It is not yet clear as who is going to be the one to represent the country in the ICC World Cup T20 Series. It is up to the board members and captain who will surely make it a worthy replacement.
