Worst South Indian Remakes Made in Bollywood
1. Saris and Sambhar
This Tamil comedy was remade in Hindi as Saris and Sambhar, starring Rani Mukerji and Akshaye Khanna. The original film was directed by K. Balachander and featured an ensemble cast including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Sridevi, Jaya Prada and Sarath Babu. The story revolved around the marriages of three pairs of cousins, which get messed up because of various reasons.
2. Chandni Bar
One of the most critically acclaimed films of 2001, Chandni Bar was a gritty portrayal of the life of bar dancers in Mumbai. The film was directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and starred Tabu in the lead role. The film was a remake of the Tamil film, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, which itself was loosely based on the Hollywood film Taxi Driver.
3. Raaz
The Bipasha Basu-starrer Raaz was a remake of the Telugu hit, Manichitrathazhu. The original film was directed by Fazil and featured Mohanlal and Shobana in the lead roles. The story revolved around a mentally unstable woman who is possessed by a spirit. The Hindi version was directed by Vikram Bhatt and also starred Dino Morea and Ashutosh Rana.
