Famous Fonts used in Advertisements

In this article, we will talk mainly about the types of letters of the Latin alphabet, an alphabet that has many fonts and each of them has a more appropriate use. Over time, a myriad of writing styles, type foundry has emerged that make the issue of typography truly world-class.

1. Linear

Within the group of linear letters, we find a large set of fonts where there are no serifs. These are pure and informal typefaces and were introduced for commercial and advertising purposes. Within them there is another classification with four large groups:

• Grotesque: similar to mechanical, but without finials, with a square appearance and little contrast between the lines. Examples are Franklin Gothic and Monotype 215.
• Neo-grotesque: with less contrast between lines than grotesque and more stylized. An example is Helvetica.
• Geometric: they have a monolinear and geometric appearance. There is little difference between the different letters of the alphabet, with very similar shapes. Examples of geometry are Bauhaus, Eurostyle and Futura.
• Humanists: take aspects of Renaissance styles, with some resemblance to classical human letters and garaldas, though without auctions. Examples: Gill Sans and Optima.

2. Etched

Incised letters give a sense of carving, with great width and similarity in all letters. Its serifs are quite small and compact, almost imperceptible. Among them we find the letter Trajan and Perpetua.

3. Scripted

Scripts pretend to mimic the writing style that is written when using classic writing instruments such as a pen or brush. They are usually italicized and connected, usually there is no separation between the letters because they are connected, just like we would write on a sheet of paper with a fountain pen. Hyperion is an example of a script, along with Albertus, Copperplate Gothic, and Trajan.

4. Manuals

Hand lettering is similar to hand lettering, but has a little more spacing and is more calligraphic. They are repeated on advertising posters and are used to indicate or visually highlight what is written. We have two examples of this letter in Klang and Cartoon fonts.

5. Fractured

Broken letters are a group that includes letters of the Gothic type, very decorative and pointed. In the original Vox classification, these fonts were included in manuals, but over time they became their own independent group. An example of this letter is Fraktur.

6. Gaelic

Gaelic are those Irish typefaces used to write Irish Gaelic. It is a script that was created as an adaptation of the traditional Irish writing of the Middle Ages, adapted only to modern times and popularized between the 16th and 21st centuries. An example of a Gaelic script is the Duibhlinn script.

Although font foundry was added to the ATypl 2010 classification, it is not without controversy as there are those who consider it more of a new alphabet rather than a writing style of the Latin alphabet and therefore it should be within foreign fonts. The reason for this is that there are some Gaelic letters that, changing their typography, become different, i.e., not only the style changes, but also the grapheme itself.
