Technology Can Play A Big Role In Boosting Disaster Management Efforts: PM Modi
PM Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 3rd session in New Delhi. The main theme of this forum is ‘Ensuring local areas in a changing climate’.
In this event, PM Narendra Modi appreciates the winners of Subhash Chandra bose, aapda prabhandhan puraskar. The 2023 award winners are the Lunglei Fire Station and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority in Mizoram. At the same time, he also inaugurates the exhibition to display the initiatives, innovative steps, tools and technologies for disaster risk reduction. Minister of State Shri Nityanand Rai, Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and many other leaders were also present at this event.
PM appreciates the award winners.
Speaking at this event, the PM referred to the global appreciation of the best work done by Indian rescue teams in Syria and Turkey, which made the Indian country proud. The PM also said that India had expanded the human resources and Technology related to disaster management because it helps to save the life of many people in the country.
Moreover, he also said that the awards distribution helps to promote and strengthens the disaster management system and ensures healthy competition. The Prime Minister appreciated all the award winners.
How Technology helps to boost the disaster management efforts
At this event, the PM said the theme ‘Ensuring Local Resilience in a Changing Climate’ that it is familiar with Indian tradition because it is visible clearly in the wall, old cities, and architecture. He said the solutions, systems, and strategy of India’s disaster management have local always. He cited the bunga house examples in kutch that survived the earthquake to a long extend.
He stressed the requirement to develop local housing models and town planning models as per the new techniques. The hour needed is important to develop the content, and local Technology with the new Technology, said the PM. When we understand local resilience by compare with the future of Technology with the help of examples, then we are able to do better in terms of disaster resistance.
Previous government efforts highlighted by PM Narendra Modi.
The PM highlights the lifestyle of the previous year’s government that was so comfortable, and it was the experience of handling natural calamities, like floods, droughts, heavy rains, etc. It was common for previous governments to put disaster relief under the agriculture department, the PM said.
He said that we live in a small world where learning from other experiences is normal. He highlighted that there is an increase in occurrences of natural disasters. Has also been an increase in the number of occurrences of natural disasters.
So, he said that there is a need to develop a dynamic system and implement innovative technology to deal with such natural disasters. He emphasized the modifications and implementations of Technology on time. As a result, he concludes that Technology plays an important role in boosting disaster management.
