When is Hysterectomy suggested?

There are basically three reasons as to why a woman would be recommended to undergo a hysterectomy in Delhi-

  • For better quality of life
  • To treat a serious malfunction in the body
  • To save the life of the patient.

When a female is required to be advised to undergo a hysterectomy  in Delhi, it is because the other alternatives have or will prove to be ineffective, and no other options are left. In simpler words, it is used as a last resort to treat a malfunction because it leads hormonal changes in the body.

Along with this, hysterectomy is recommended in some cases to save the patient from some life threatening diseases. There are some medical issues that can be resolved only by hysterectomy, including-

  • Presence of cancerous cells or tissues in the cervix, vagina, fallopian tubes, ovaries, or uterus.
  • Uncontrollable and severe PID (pelvic inflammatory disease).
  • Chronic and severe bleeding from the uterus.
  • Uterine rupture.

Apart from the above listed, there are a few more conditions which are not life threatening, but require major surgical procedures for their cure. Examples of these are as follows.

  • Extensive endometriosis which causes intense pain.
  • Hyperplasia, or the precancerous changes of the endometrium.
  • Large and extensive fibroid tumors that cause pain and bleeding.
  • Uterine prolapse, more commonly known as pelvic relaxation.
  • Incessant and severe bleeding which can cause anemia. This cannot be treated by iron supplements.

It should be noted here that hysterectomies are not performed for minor or infrequent uterine bleeding, minor fibroids or pelvic congestion. These problems can be treated effectively by other treatment alternatives, and hence, do not require the female to get a hysterectomy. The gynecologist would only recommend hysterectomy in Delhi if other treatment options have failed to treat the condition.

 How is a hysterectomy done?

A hysterectomy can be performed with a minimally invasive laparoscope, with a vaginal surgery or open surgery. The method depends on the reason responsible for the surgery and the size of the uterus.

Possible complications after a hysterectomy  in Delhi

Usually, women who get a hysterectomy done don’t face any serious risks or complications post-surgery. However, hysterectomy is a serious surgery and not free of risks, especially when not performed by experts or the best doctor for hysterectomy in Delhi. Some possible complications after the surgery are listed below.

  • Vaginal prolapse
  • Intense and chronic pain
  • Formation of vaginal fistula
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Infections
  • Blood clots
  • Hemorrhage

Although it is very uncommon that these complications occur, these are not inevitable. However, choosing a good hospital and an experienced gynecologist will greatly reduce the chances of these risks.

How long does the recovery take?

The span of recovery varies with the purpose and method of the surgery. If the surgery involves an abdominal incision, a two-day hospital stay and five to six weeks recovery period is required. If the surgery is minimally invasive and low impact in nature, the patient is discharged the same day as the surgery and a recovery period of two to three weeks is sufficient. In both cases, it takes the vagina a minimum of four weeks to fully recover. So steer clear of intercourse, and abstain from it until the doctor gives a green signal.
