Now Navigate With Our Own GPS: IRNSS Proud to Launch 7th Navigation Satellite

India finally achieved success by stepping its final footprints in its own satellite navigation system. On Thursday, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota near Chennai Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the successful launching of the complete set-up of the seventh navigation satellite system better known as NAVIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation),in sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit of space at 12:50 p.m. (IST). This 1,425 Kg satellite was getting prepared for launching since 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday and was blasted off the space center launch pad by boarding on Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C33 (PSLV C33).

During the launch program the Prime Minister explained the satellite has been dedicated to the Mariners of India and hence named as ‘NAVIC’ meaning mariners.

In sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit of space, this seventh satellite of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), IRNSS 1G will occupy a position in space with a perigree of 284 Km and an apogee of 20,657 Km.

But the Indian citizen still have to wait few more months as the satellite will undergo stabilization cross checking and also different examinations to verify its correct performance as reported by the ISRO scientist.

This seventh and final navigation satellite system will cover an area of 1,500 Km over Indian boundaries with a position accuracy of more than 20 m around the regions of India. Moreover India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said that, the IRNSS satellite will be applicable for terrestrial navigation for travellers, airplane and fleet management system, vehicle tracking, disaster management system, mapping and capturing of geodetic data, mobile phone tracking and also visual and voice navigation.

As per report of the ISRO engineers they are trying to design some front end chips which will able to receive navigation signals sent by these satellite system and the whole process is quite similar to the Global Positioning System (GPS). The engineers also reported that this navigation satellite system is divided into three parts: satellites or space; ground; and receivers or users.

Among the well-known enlisted navigation satellites like GPS owned by US Airforce with 24 satellites, Glonass owned by Russia, Europe’s Galileo with 35 satellites and China operating BeiDou with 28 satellites; IRSS satellite will also make its prestigious position within few years and make our nation proud.

While launching the navigation satellite, in a video message honorable Prime Minister of India said that this navigation satellite is one the greatest gift by the scientist to the countrymen and also invited our seven neighboring countries to use this technology if they want. Moreover Mr Modi assured the common man that with the help of this technology India will be able to keep a track of the plane and also can plan to fight against natural calamities.
